Daughter of a Pacifist Soldier: Full Live Performance (77 min.) 2001
A link to the hour-long recording of Rogoff’s live work, “Daughter of a Pacifist Soldier”.
Daughter of a Pacifist Soldier is Rogoff’s bold, multidisciplinary artistic experiment propelled by her father's writings and rooted in interviews with Veterans of three wars. Onni Johnson plays Tamar Rogoff. Five performers of Tamar Rogoff Performance Projects - Abigail Rasminsky, Billy Clark, Jennifer Chang, Rob Laqui, and Paulo Pimentel - were 'buddied' with five veterans with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder from a clinic at a Manhattan Veterans Hospital. The performers formed remarkably solid bonds with the vets over nine months as they recorded interviews on tape and stored them even more deeply in their own consciousness. ln Daughter of a Pacifist Soldier, each performer is a witness to his or her buddy's emotional history. The words of five WWII, Korean, and Vietnam veterans became the script and soundtrack for this production, along with the letters and diary of Rogoff s father.
“Tamar Rogoff’s rich and unusual pieces delve into other worlds that resonate with her own... Daughter of a Pacifist Soldier is a montage that gradually, obliquely closes in on your heart." - Deborah Jowitt, Village Voice
"A haunting, poignant theater and dance piece." - Jennifer Dunning, New York Times
"When we fail to tell our own story, surely someone else will. Often we are then written out and details distorted. Ms. Rogoff and Company have done justice to us all with the excellent telling of our stories, including her own." - Ron Brown. Vietnam Combat Veteran
